Clay, Charcoal and Ink

Mar 25 —— 27, 2024

The Easter holidays are a perfect time for getting children to explore Pablo Picasso :Structures of invention. The Unity of a Life’s Work.

During three mornings of fun and work, participants examine the Málaga-born artist’s oeuvre in search of ideas that inspire them to develop their own creativity in the workshop.

Throughout his lifetime, Picasso never ceased to explore new languages, constantly looking back to the great artists of the past. This workshop sets out to examine this balance between classical and innovative through a variety of artistic media and formulas.

The first day will be devoted to one of Picasso’s favourite techniques: printmaking. Participants view original prints in the exhibition galleries and learn about the different techniques developed by the artist. They then get to try their hand at some of the variants, ranging from classical to more fun and experimental.

Let’s get to work! Pottery will be the focus of the second day, once again looking at both classical and modern. In one part of the workshop, participants create shapes with their fingers using modelling, playing with found materials and exploring the traces and textures they can leave on the ceramic surface. They then concentrate on the folding technique, working with sheets of laminated clay in the manner of origami.

On the last day, participants will be immersed in the world of drawing and movement, examining the close relationship between body and line. Taking this as a starting point, they are guided through traditional drawing techniques in order to explore contemporary artistic languages. The day will be dedicated to discovering the diverse expressive possibilities offered by these tools and practices.
