During the spring and summer of 2024, the Museo Picasso Málaga will be showing works by María Blanchard, a key artist who influenced the modern movement and Cubism.
Participants in this activity will enjoy a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in some of this outstanding artist’s works, in which they will be able to recognise everyday scenes and familiar people as well as explore the pastel drawing technique so characteristic of Blanchard’s creations.
The workshop takes a dynamic approach to portraying people who are close and well-known to the participants: their family members! This activity offers participants an enriching and creative experience that involves capturing their loved ones from a personal perspective while exploring artistic techniques inspired by the work of the Santander-born artist.

Museum in Movement: Familiar Faces 

Cubism emerged as one of the most fascinating art movements of the twentieth century. María Blanchard was among the first women artists to explore the possibilities of the Cubist language and made one of the most significant contributions to this avant-garde movement.
In Paintings with Life participants have the chance to immerse themselves in the work of this exceptional artist by exploring the museum’s galleries in search of Cubist compositions that reveal everyday objects from new perspectives.
The workshop offers each participant the opportunity to create their own still-life arrangement in pop-up form to create effects of depth and dynamism. This creative experience promises not only to provide them with an insight into María Blanchard’s legacy but also to encourage experimentation and personal expression using the language of Cubism.

Museum in Movement. Paintings with Life   

Many of the works on display in <a href="https://museopicassomalaga.org/en/exposiciones/pablo-picasso-structures-of-invention" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pablo Picasso: Structures of Invention. The Unity of a Life’s Work</a> explore how objects are represented from different perspectives by locating different viewpoints on the same plane.
A glass, a bull’s head, a cheese and a mandolin – objects widely depicted in Pablo Picasso’s Cubist paintings and sculptures – are moved from the galleries housing the collection to the museum’s garden for this participatory project entitled Cubism Lab, where participants can put into practice the Cubist experience by fragmenting, restructuring and recomposing their planes and forms on coloured panels with magnetic surfaces.
