This cycle is part of Women Raising the Curtain, a programme of educational and cultural events comprising seminars, film screenings, dance, literature, talks, and other activities featuring Paula Rego.

Women in Films looks at books that were made into films, and which aroused the interest of Paula Rego. Each session consists of a presentation and the screening of a film or documentary.

A unique insight into the life and work of celebrated painter Paula Rego directed by her son, the film maker Nick Willing.

**Jane Eyre **

Jane Eyre, a young girl who spent a sad childhood being raised in an orphanage, is hired as a governess by Edward Rochester to teach a little girl at Thornfield House. The dismal, isolated mansion, and the initially cold behaviour of the owner, put the young woman’s fortitude to the test. However, she gradually starts to fall in love with him.

El Crimen del Padre Amaro (The Crime of Father Amaro)

Based on the 1875 novel by Eça de Queirós. Amaro, a 24-year-old young man recently ordained a priest, arrives in the parish of the Mexican village of Los Reyes, to help Father Benito with the church services. In the village, Father Amaro meets Amelia, a beautiful 16-year-old girl. Little by little, the young priest starts to realize the things that are happening in the village, in connection with the region’s drug cartel, led by El Chato Aguilar.
