The Corners of Time. Ellas crean

.

This collaboration with the Ellas crean festival (Woman Create) is part of Women Raising the Curtain, a programme of educational and cultural events comprising seminars, film screenings, dance, literature, talks, and other activities featuring Paula Rego.

Three women from different generations and different artistic backgrounds will be talking to each other about the presence of individual and collective memory in their respective creative processes and works. They will look at memory as a source of inspiration, an indissoluble part of any human action, as a commitment and a vital force. Sometimes these things have been experienced in person, intimate spaces that are exposed to the public gaze. At others, they involve a commitment to recovering women’s silenced history - not just that of women who were geniuses, but also those who, anonymously, reclaim their rightful space. They all emerge from the hidden corners of time to inhabit words, verses, artistic images, and actions. Paul Rego painted anonymous women, transforming them with her work into universal witnesses of our time, of women’s time.
