Music for Picasso. Parade and concert

Oct 27, 2023

To mark the celebration of the Museo Picasso Málaga’s 20th anniversary, 270 5th- and 6th-year primary students become the components of an orchestra who play musical instruments created by the participants themselves.

The team of educational and cultural activities at the Museo Picasso Málaga together with the music duo Vibra-tó and the artist Juan Cabrera are coordinating an activity carried out by 270 schoolchildren in their last two years of primary education.

During several days in October, the participants will create music instruments following the guidelines of the Vibra-tó company, as well as huge heads inspired by Picasso’s works with the aid of artist Juan Cabrera. Both the musical instruments and the Picassian figures will be fully made from recycled materials, linking up with the project The SDGs at the Picasso.

On October 27, the 270 schoolchildren will take part in a procession wearing the heads they have created. The route ends outside the museum in Calle Alcazabilla, where a concert will be held using the musical instruments crafted in the workshops. The concert, orchestrated by the Vibra-tó duo, will coordinate the children’s performance of pieces such as Lecuona’s Malagueña, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, Manuel de Falla’s Fire Dance and Erick Satie’s Gimnopedie.

The schools participating in Music for Picasso are CEIP Prácticas nº1, Colegio Maristas Nuestra Señora de la Victoria, CEIP Miguel Hernández and CEIP Nuestra Señora de Gracia.
