Gesture and ornament. Ceramic workshop with Victoria Maldonado

Held in connection with the Reflections Picasso x Barceló exhibition organised by the Museo Picasso Málaga and on view at the Museo de Almería from December 2025 to March 2026.

The starting point for this workshop, which will have its ‘reflection’ in the Museo de Almería, is Picasso’s ceramic production, on display in Pablo Picasso: Structures of Invention. The Unity of a Life’s Work. It relates in turn to the series of works belonging to the project Something Must Break by the artist Victoria Maldonado, which draws on the traces, sediments or waste that arise from representing her daily routines on a slab of clay.

Based on this connection, the activity explores ceramic techniques combining gestural and ornamental aspects, leading participants to the tactile and atavistic intuition inherent in working with clay. Through the repetition of gestures and their accumulation, they construct sediments, experiences, landscapes…

Victoria Maldonado (Málaga, 1989) is an artist and teacher with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Málaga. Her theoretical and practical explorations have been exhibited at national and international fairs such as Material Thinking (Tsinghua, China, 2022); ExpoChicago (Chicago, 2022) and Arco (Madrid, 2018 and 2022), among others. Her individual projects have been shown at various exhibition halls, galleries and fairs.
