Conversation between Farah Atassi and Marjoline Lévy

May 23, 2025

Conversation between the artist Farah Atassi and Marjoline Lévy, curator of the exhibition Farah Atassi. Genius Loci

Farah Atassi, who was born in Brussels in 1981 and trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, is a prominent figure in contemporary art. Her work, influenced by Cubism and masters such as Picasso, is notable for its personal treatment of the picture space combining geometry, figuration and precise visual architecture.

The exhibition brings together pieces created between 2015 and 2025, in which Atassi constructs scenes that seem suspended in time. Far from representing reality in a literal way, her compositions conjure up a parallel world that is enigmatic and steeped in symbolism. The title Genius Loci, which refers to the ‘spirit of place’, highlights this poetic dimension of her spaces endowed with a subtle energy that transcends formal aspects.

The conversation with Lévy will be an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the approach of an artist who recasts painting as a field of spatial and emotional exploration.
