Practice in America. I Seminar of Art and Social Inclusion

Sep 15 —— 16, 2011

Seminar

The educational responsibility of art centres and museums involves examining independent creative solutions adapted to their own funds and resources, in order to establishproductive relationships with those who visit them and whichenable them to serve as places of learning outside the classroom.

Specialists in the theory and practice of social inclusion through art took part in the seminar, which responded to the need of cultural institutions, asknowledge mediators, to reformulate their strategies and actions, in order to adapt to the new realities presented by ever-changing societies. The use of culture as a vehicle for social integration in marginalized communities was also discussed, as was the relationship between global strategies and specific projects underway in this field which use art to highlight what society hasset aside.

This seminar was coordinated by Paulo Portella, head of Education at Museo de Bellas Artes de Sao Paulo Assis Chateaubriand. With the collaboration of Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo. Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía, la UNESCO and Universidad de Málaga.
