Art and Migration: Stories of New Identities. 14th Art and Social Participation Seminar

Dec 19, 2024

Seminar centred on exploring identities arising from migratory processes in the twenty-first century and their connection with art.

For the fourteenth year, the Museo Picasso Málaga is organising the Art and Social Participation Seminar, an event aimed at professionals from the educational, artistic, cultural and social spheres. Over the years, the seminar has explored important issues such as accessibility, functional diversity, mental health, gender, migration, science and participation in digital environments, among others.

This year, the Museum is focusing its attention on the notion of identity and interculturality in order to create a space for debating and exchanging ideas. This forum will be attended by professionals and artists whose careers are linked to migratory movements and their connection with art and culture in our country.

How does culture echo the tensions triggered by the new identities arising from migration? How does art act as a space of expression for people who have suffered forced migration? What are the repercussions of the culture shock and intangible losses on the culture of migrant people? How can art be a vehicle for raising awareness of intercultural richness in a country like Spain?

These are some of the questions to be addressed in this seminar, which will based on a roundtable discussion and an artistic activity.
