Multidisciplinary workshops during the Semana Blanca school holidays

Is it art or science?

For youngsters aged 4 to 15 years.

24 - 27 Feb. 2020

Science, technology, architecture and art are the focus of Museo Picasso Málaga’s new Semana Blanca holiday workshops, for children and youngsters aged 4- 15 years. The sessions will run from Monday 24th to Thursday 27th February, from 10am to 2pm.

Using the work of Pablo Picasso and the architectural spaces of the Museo Picasso Málaga building as inspiration, participants will explore concepts such as colour, light, space, textures and movement, through multidisciplinary activities.

Games, workshops and experiments will give the youngsters a chance to get to know Pablo Picasso’s highly versatile work and to explore the different spaces that make up the museum complex.

Monday 24th. Colour and Light
How is colour produced? How important is it in Picasso’s works? These are just some of the questions we will be looking at in the first workshop session, using art and physics. The participants will make Newton disks, capture the rainbow in paint and work with different pigments, carrying out scientific experiments to understand the behaviour of light and colour.

Tuesday 25th. Textures
How are our senses involved in capturing texture in artworks? How can we create art with different materials? Today we will be searching for different materials in our surroundings, from paper and cork to leaves from trees, learning to identify them and observe how they are affected by certain chemical processes. We will also find out how different textures play a major role in Picasso’s sculptures.

Wednesday 26th. Architecture
For just one morning, the workshop participants will be architects, making buildings, models and plans that combine art and technology. As well as having Picasso’s works to use as references for their own creative processes, they will explore the museum’s different architectural spaces.

Thursday 27th. Movement
How is movement conveyed in static artworks? How can we build artworks that move? Inspired by the works in the permanent collection, in this last workshop session the youngsters will design mechanical devices that help us to animate our artworks.

The price of the workshop is 50 euros per child, with a 15% discount for the second sibling, and includes the museum visits and all the art materials used in the four sessions. Single-day enrolment is 15€ a day.
