Holiday Workshops

'The Other Museum' activity for 'Miquel Barceló. Metamorphosis'

22 - 26 Feb. 2021

These workshops are based on the idea of travel. Each day, the children will visit a different continent, getting to know its countries, culture and geography through different artistic techniques such as watercolour, ceramics, painting and sculpture. This daily “journey“ will be accompanied by visits to the museum’s exhibition rooms, where they will discover the work of Pablo Picasso and Miquel Barceló.

On Monday, we’ll be travelling to Africa, where they will explore its culture and traditions through ceramics, masks and paintings. On Tuesday, it’s the turn of Asia, where we’ll explore countries such as Thailand and India, where elephants and Chinese dragons will be the stars. The youngsters will learn about ancient techniques like ink drawing, origami sculptures, and colourful mandalas. On Wednesday, we’ll be staying here in Europe, starting with enigmatic cave paintings, then on to Greek and Roman ceramics (which they can paint and glaze, and then fire them in the kiln), until we reach the modern paintings of Picasso. Oceania and all its faraway cultures will be the star of our trip on Thursday. We’ll make boomerangs, create maritime scenes inspired by the South Seas and Miquel Barceló’s seascapes. Finally, on Friday, we’ll be crossing the Atlantic and exploring America, from Canada to Argentina. The children will make Totem sculptures using wood, clay and cardboard, and they will also travel to Mexico, Peru and Chile, to discover their ancient cultures.

These journeys will be illustrated each in a travel log, where, just like in a diary, we will describe everything we have visited with drawings, paintings and photographs.
