Jazz at MPM

Aruán Ortiz & Don Byron

A Fifteenth Anniversary event

Thursday 18 Oct. 2018
MPM Auditorium | 9pm

Aruán Ortiz grew up studying viola and classical piano, but his style is inspired by Thelonius Monk, Art Tatum and Bud Powell as much as by W.A Mozart, Franz Liszt and J. S. Bach, and he often adds Asian, Cuban and African influences to his music. Donald Byron is classically trained and he, too, has an eclectic style that ventures into different kinds of rhythms and music, such klezmer, rap and funk. The duo often surprises audiences with its unpredictable repertoire.
