14th Cycle of Chamber Music

Austri Musici

Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Times

Tuesday 9 Mar. 2021
MPM Auditorium | 8pm

The Museo Picasso Málaga Auditorium is hosting nine concerts of chamber music performed by the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga for the 14th edition of the cycle, which runs from Autumn 2020 to Spring 2021. This year, the concerts range from historical to jazz, from the purist styles from around the 18th-century to fusions with other musical traditions.

On 15th January 1941, in Görlitz Nazi concentration camp, Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) and his fellow prisoners Etienne Pâsquier, Jean Le Bouilaire and Henri Akoka, premiered Quatuor de la Fin du Temps, as it was named on the poster for this first performance. Very soon, his impressive and spiritually powerful work was not only recognized as the most important work in the composer’s own catalogue of chamber music, but also as one of the most important works in the history of 20th century music.

The unforgettable score of this piece of architecture of 20th-century sound will be performed by Cecilia Blanes (violin), Carlos Puerto (cello), Martín Blanes (clarinet) and Juan Ignacio Fernández (piano).
