10 Years

27th October 2013 was the 10th Anniversary of Museo Picasso Málaga.

Ten intense years of work for the diffusion of Pablo Picasso's work: A decade of commitment with the people of Malaga and with all those who travel long distances to participate in our artistic and cultural proposal, fruit of the will shared by Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, daughter in law and grandson of the artist, and the Andalusian Government, who together produced an excellent project for the museum devoted to an artist whose techniques and styles changed the course of modern art.

Planting roots and an international vocation have guided an endeavour that can be summarised in the 233 works of art that make up our permanent collection today, the 36 temporary exhibitions held since the Museum was inaugurated, the 38 publications, 210 conferences imparted by experts, 170 cultural activities organised and the 258,758 participants in educational actions.

In total, over 3,550,000 people of all nationalities and all ages have visited Museo Picasso Málaga, which since its very beginning and to the present day continues to strive to offer every one of its visitors a unique experience bringing them closer to art and culture.

In a memory exercise, on Saturday 26th October 2013, Museo Picasso Málaga celebrated an institutional event of aknowlegment to individuals and institutions that made possible the creation of the gallery, which was attended by members of the Board of Fundación Museo Picasso Málaga. Legado Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso.

THREE EXHIBITIONS FOR AN ANNIVERSARY

In February, Museo Picasso Málaga presented the exhibition Picasso of Malaga. Earliest Works, evoking the roots of an artist who would change the history of art. In spring, Pablo Picasso. Family Album examined the artist's most intimate circle, where the boundaries between art and life seemed to fade away. In autumn, Eleven Invited Works focuses on Museo Picasso Málaga's outstanding permanent collection through the works of other artists admired by Picasso.

In the year of its tenth anniversary and coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, Museo Picasso Málaga remembers the roots and identity of the artist from Malaga, through three exhibitions and different activities that look into the more personal aspects of the artist with the cooperation of international museums and institutions, and the generosity of the artist's heirs.

This trilogy explores the concept of Family and its relevance in the work of the artist, as it continuously manifests itself in his work with references to his private life and the wide range of iconography he created throughout his long artistic career: his family environment during his initial period in Malaga, the different people who shared his intimacy throughout his life, and the artists he respected and studied, make up an affective and unique journey that the museum has embarked upon during this anniversary year.
